Qualifications in Business Computing

  • CBC, DipBC and NDBC
These three qualifications can stand alone, or lead on to each other.

The first year is the Certificate in Business Computing (CBC). The second year is the Diploma in Business Computing (DipBC). The third year is the National Diploma in Business Computing (NDBC).

The programmes cover: business communication, business applications, data organisation/control, interpersonal skills, internet, software, program development, database design, programming, hardware fundamentals, operating systems, accounting, network management, web page design, data communications and electronics.

Duration: 1 year each

Entry Requirements: For CBC, reasonable sixth form grades or the equivalent ability to succeed. For DipBC, completion of CBC. For NDBC, completion of DipBC.

Career opportunities: In database design, programming, accounting, sales, user support, data communications, network management and a raft of other options.

Diplomas

  • NZIM (New Zealand Institute of Management) Diploma in Management
The programme is run in conjunction with the New Zealand Diploma in Business. The NZIM is a national qualification, comprising eight papers of study and can lead on to a university management degree.

Topics covered include - accounting, commercial law, organisation and management and business communication. Optional papers cover marketing, computer concepts, personnel management and employment relations.

Duration: The Diploma can be studied full-time over one and a half years, or part-time over an unspecified time. Each paper involves four hours tuition per week, over a 17 week semester. In addition there is a voluntary one hour tutorial each week.

Entry Requirements: Reasonable sixth form grades or be aged over 20 years.

  • Advanced Diploma in Management
This is an extension of the Diploma in Management and requires a further six papers, making 14 papers in all for the Advanced Diploma. Two of the optional papers for the diploma -marketing and industrial relations - are compulsory for the Advanced Diploma.

Duration: 1 year.

Entry Requirements: The prerequisite is the NZIM Diploma in Management, or approved degree papers.
