Qualifications in Business Computing

  • CBC, DipBC and NDBC
These three qualifications can stand alone, or lead on to each other.

The first year is the Certificate in Business Computing (CBC). The second year is the Diploma in Business Computing (DipBC). The third year is the National Diploma in Business Computing (NDBC).

Candidates may undertake the CBC and DipBC one of the following streams: Systems Administration and Support, or Programming, or Technician. Candidates may undertake the NDBC in one of two streams: Systems Administration and Support, or Programming.

These streams are areas of subject specialisation available at The Waikato Polytechnic, which are supplementary to the national requirements for these qualifications: they do not have the status of a formal endorsement of this award. Duration: 1 year each

Entry Requirements: CBC - Completed Year 13 (Seventh Form), or Year 12 (Sixth Form) Certificate with a maximum of 18 in four subjects, or gained the award of the Waikato Polytechnic Certificate in Computing (Level 3), or equivalent. As an alternative to the above entry requirements, for the Technician stream of the Certificate only, applicants may be granted entry if they have completed the Waikato Polytechnic Electrical Foundation programme successfully. Applicants who do not meet the above entry requirements may be considered for provisional entry (if aged under 20) or special admission (if aged 20 or over). DipBC – the CBC or equivalent, or experience in the computing industry. NDBC – DipBC or equivalent.
