- Business software supplier SAP says it is adding a Microsoft-compatible open-development platform to its MySAP Workplace enterprise portal software.
In a statement released in conjunction with the company's Business Intelligence and Enterprise Portal conference in Hamburg, SAP says MySAP Workplace users will now be able to create their own "MiniApps" -- web-based services that automatically push job-related information to the user's desktop -- in a Microsoft environment.
SAP supplies ready-made MiniApps for common applications such as email, calendars, company news and travel services. In collaboration with partner TopTier Software SAP has now added the capacity for programmers to use tools and languages such as Microsoft Visual InterDev and Microsoft Active Server Pages to develop new MiniApps, SAP says.
The conference, which SAP says is sold out with more than 2000 attendees, is scheduled to run until Thursday (German time).
