Auckland-based IT recruitment firm Resource Edge is halving its staff, but plans to take on others.
Four people will lose their jobs as managing director Linda Peters sets up a new operation in Melbourne. They will come from the "more labour-intensive" areas of permanent recruitment and sales. She says their work could not have continued effectively without her.
"My move to Melbourne is moving the company into the Australian market, though we also have a woman in Sydney. The permanent recruitment area required a lot of my input. It would not have had the same quality had I not been here," she says. She says Resource Edge is "concentrating on its core business".
Peters says the company looked at redeployment, offering the jobs to two of the outgoing staff, but it was decided that different skills were needed. She says the four staff are presently working out their notices.
Meanwhile, the company aims to add two staff in HR consulting and contracting. She says the company is having a hard time finding HR consultants as such HR skills are in short supply.
