Transpower is seeking a CIO, a position that doesn’t currently exist at the national grid operator.
“It’s part of an overall re-organisation of the company,” says Transpower spokesman Chris Roberts.
The creation of the CIO position is an initiative of Transpower chief executive Ralph Craven, who was appointed in May, Roberts says.
The CIO will oversee an annual IT&T budget of about $50 million and will rank equally with four other general managers, including the systems operation general manager and national grid general manager.
Transpower runs two IT departments, IT&T planning and IT&T delivery, “and the expectation is that the two functions will be brought back together”.
It outsources most of its IT functions to Fujitsu.
