Unbundling meeting ‘positive’

Telecommunications Users Association (TUANZ) chief executive Ernie Newman says a meeting last week with the Commerce Commission's telecommunications team to discuss local loop unbundling was "positive".

Telecommunications Users Association (TUANZ) chief executive Ernie Newman says a meeting last week with the Commerce Commission’s telecommunications team to discuss local loop unbundling was “positive”.

He sought the meeting after the commission’s shock December decision to not recommend unbundling to the government.

“We’ve met with the team, although not with the commissioner himself, and we’ll definitely be making a submission to the government on the matter.”

Communications minister Paul Swain has called for interested parties to make further submissions on the commission’s final unbundling report, which followed a lengthy investigation and recommendation in a draft report to unbundle.

Swain will take the submissions, plus advice from the Ministry of Economic Development, and present his recommendation to Cabinet in May.
