There will be no change to the IT and communications portfolios of cabinet minister Paul Swain, following his appointment yesterday to the additional roles of labour and immigration minister, taking effect tomorrow.
Swain takes over those portfolios from Lianne Dalziel, who resigned from them last week after admitting misleading parliament and the public in relation to the case of the Sri Lankan girl who failed in a bid to enter the country as a refugee.
To make way for the new roles, Swain gives up responsibility for transport.
However, he retains the communications and IT jobs, as well as continuing as corrections minister and associate economic development minister.
A spokeswoman for the minister says Swain will continue to work with associate IT and communications minister David Cunliffe, who has been increasing his profile in the roles since late last year.
