ACC goes Irish for new claims system

ACC's Pathway claims management system looks set to be replaced by an Irish system at a cost the corporation is not willing to disclose.

ACC has chosen Fineos, an Irish provider, as the preferred supplier to replace its Pathway claims management system.

Pathway needed replacing or upgrading because, ACC development GM Murray Young told Computerworld last year, "it doesn't have some of the core functionality that suits our strategy -- there's not a lot of workflow, for example".

ACC is aiming to get into a position where it can share workflow functions with organisations it works with, such as health providers, and, Young said "we want connectivity with the wider New Zealand market, and Pathway isn't the force to take us there".

Significant advances in products and tools have occurred since Pathway was deployed, he says.

The Pathway replacement project is now in proof of concept stage, according to a statement from ACC. Unisys, ACC's outsourcing partner, is working with the corporation on the project.

ACC spokesman Richard Braddell declined to comment on the cost of the Fineos package, but said "it's a substantial contract and an important part of ACC's IT".

"We have a sense of what it may cost but are still working through it."
