AUT IT not affected by outage: IT manager

A power outage at Auckland University of Technology yesterday had no impact on the university's IT systems, says IT manager Calum MacLeod.

"All students and staff were sent home from the affected building and there was no IT equipment in it, except networking equipment for PCs and we can't use those with no power."

Power was cut to Technology House, at the southern end of the AUT campus after switching gear managed by electricity provider Vector malfunctioned, prompting sprinklers to active and a fire service call out.

Yesterday afternoon, MacLeod told Computerworld the network would not be able to be re-activated until the building had dried out and power was restored.
