Ihug's new owner, Perth-based iiNet, has bought another New Zealand ISP - this time in Hamilton.

Wave Internet has around 10,000 customers in the Waikato, Bay of Plenty region and resells both Telecom services and Counties Power's Wired Country offerings. Wave also ran the virtual ISP PC Connect for failed PC assembler The PC Company and took over those customers when the business failed late last year.

Wave customers will continue to use their existing email addresses and the Wave brand will be retained indefinitely, says iiNet managing director Michael Malone. All existing support numbers and email addresses will remain the same after the merger.

Wave was owned by Texas-based PavTech. No sale price was disclosed.
