DVD Jon cracks AirPort encryption

Key allows other apps to stream to AirPort Express

Norwegian hacker DVD Jon is back again. This time he has broken into Apple Computer's wireless music streaming technology.

Johansen has released JustePort, a software key that helps to unlock the encryption Apple uses for its AirPort Express. JustePort allows software other than Apple iTunes to stream music to Apple's AirPort Express.

Ernst & Young consultant Nitesh Dhanjani predicts that Johansen has helped pave the way for other software applications other than Apple iTunes to work with AirPort Express.

"I'm guessing this will allow others to write tools to directly stream audio to the Aiport Express without having to go through iTunes," he writes.

20-year-old DVD Jon Lech Johansen made the headlines last year when he faced the courts over his DVD encryption-cracking software — developed when he was 15.
