Dramatic growth in the scope and size of the SAP system run by state-owned enterprise OnTrack, which maintains the country’s railway infrastructure, has led the company to seek more system support.
OnTrack’s original job entailed dealing with the government’s interest in TranzRail. When this was sold to Toll Holdings, in 2004, OnTrack took on responsibility for the maintenance of the rail infrastructure.
For two years, physical maintenance was contracted out to Transfield Services. Then OnTrack bid to bring this work in-house, increasing the size of the organisation almost five-fold.
Transfield’s maintenance system, based on SAP R/3, was absorbed into OnTrack’s SAP R/3 system and some historical transactional data imported into a new SAP business warehouse system.
Specific knowledge of the NetWeaver web development application is requested — for the possible development of an “SAP portal”.
OnTrack has invited part-bids — it considers it acceptable for two suppliers to share responsibilities.
