New Zealander charged with selling pirated software

Tip on anti-piracy hotline led to arrest, Microsoft says

A Palmerston North man has been charged with selling pirated Microsoft software over the internet, following a raid of his address by police.

According to a statement from Microsoft, police executed a search warrant following an investigation here and in Australia by Microsoft, which laid a complaint with police when it had identified the individual.

Microsoft says the matter first came to its attention following a tip off to its anti-piracy hotline and the man has been charged under the Copyright Act.
