AA partners up to track lemons

Automobile Association signs up with Lemoncheck for online history reports

The Automobile Association has entered into partnership with Lemoncheck, a commercial online service that will provide a comprehensive history report on any vehicle, prior to purchase.

Lemoncheck replaces an existing online product the AA was using, says Lemoncheck CEO Mike Nelson.

The software was launched commercially two years ago to a large customer base of car dealers and finance companies.

“We approached the AA 18 months ago,” Nelson says. “They weren’t happy with the software they were using. They trialed our product extensively and we recently signed a contract.”

Nelson was the first importer into Wellington of used Japanese cars. He moved to Chile, where he similarly imported Japanese models. He says that on his return to Wellington he wanted to stay involved in the car business and combine that with his other interest, computing.

The Lemoncheck product was developed by Nelson’s company Slik Software, in C++ and ASP.

Under the partnership, the AA will be responsible for retailing Lemoncheck. The cost to AA members will be $20 for a vehicle history check, and $25 to non-members. A Red Book valuation will cost $8 and $10 respectively.
