Police have made two arrests in connection with the 027 voicemail vulnerability revealed by Computerworld last week.
A statement released by police yesterday said a 16-year-old Auckland youth and a 19-year-old Hamilton man were arrested and would be charged with unauthorised access of a computer.
“The arrests follow a short but intensive investigation into the alleged ‘hacking’ of some mobile phone voice mailboxes,” the statement said.
In another statement, released today, police named the Hamilton man as Sahil Gupta and said he had been remanded on bail to appear at a pre-depositions hearing at the Hamilton District Court on June 21. Police will apply to have his hearing transferred to Auckland, the statement says.
The 16-year-old has been remanded on bail, say police, to appear in the Auckland Youth Court on June 2.
Police say the charge is a "purely indictable" offence.
