Ross Hughson, CIO of Westpac, has been appointed CIO at the Inland Revenue Department.
Hughson, who takes up the IRD appointment next month, has been with Westpac for two years and before that worked for Axa and its predecessor National Mutual. He also worked for IBM earlier in his career.
Hughson says the highlight of his time at Westpac was making "significant progress" in four target areas set out when he started — customer satisfaction, staff satisfaction, delivering value to the shareholder and contribution to the broader community. IT delivery and systems uptime were a significant factor in whether those goals were met.
Hughson declined to comment more specifically on Westpac or his new role at IRD, where he will be the inaugural CIO — the position has not existed at the department until now.
Computerworld understands Hughson will report to IRD deputy commissioner for business development and systems Colin MacDonald.
