Capital DHB wants an all-IP network

Convergence of voice and data RFI with cost savings at its core

Wellington's Capital and Coast District Health Board is seeking a converged voice and data network.

The DHB has put out a call for expressions of interest in providing a report on how it could best implement such a network. According to the document, it is "seeking quotations from suitably qualified consultants to develop a telecommunications plan consistent with its business requirements."

Capital and Coast envisages "a single network that carries all traffic that can be carried using the internet protocol" and says the new planned Wellington Regional Hospital, which is under construction, will provide "an opportunity to ensure that [Capital and Coast] minimises its short and long-term telecommunications costs with either a single or a staged implementation of new voice and data telecommunications technology."

The document notes that the DHB's telecomms budget for 2004-05 was $2.4 million.
