TelstraClear IT head takes charge of Sytec

Merger of Sytec and TelstraClear ICT proceeds

The integration of Sytec with TelstraClear's ICT division continues with the appointment of Mike Askew, formerly TelstraClear's ICT head, as chief executive of Sytec.

TelstraClear bought Sytec and its subsidiary, DMZ Resources, for $12 million in November and began integrating it with its own ICT division in May.

Together, TelstraClear's ICT division and Sytec comprises 250 staff and turns over $50 million-plus a year.

TelstraClear credits its Sytec buy with helping it win a five-year, $7 million contract with Whitcoulls, replacing Telecom, the incumbent provider.

Whitcoulls' new voice and data network was designed jointly by Sytec and TelstraClear, according to TelstraClear.

TelstraClear chief executive Allan Freeth says TelstraClear is to concentrate on profitable areas such as ICT and systems integration from now on.
