HiGrowth: helping directors run fast-growth companies

HiGrowth will also investigate overseas ICT professionals' reasons for not coming to NZ

The HiGrowth project is working with the Institute of Directors on a course for directors of fast-growing companies, many of which can be expected to be found in the ICT arena.

To be in charge of a company that clocks up 100% or more growth in a year or two presents challenges beyond those of running a typical company, says HiGrowth director Garth Biggs.

HiGrowth and the institute are identifying these challenges and formulating appropriate advice, as well as a format for its delivery. The course should be finalised in the next three months, Biggs says.

HiGrowth also plans to research the reasons for the “huge gap” between the number of overseas people qualified in ICT, and other potential high growth areas, who say they want to come to New Zealand and the much smaller number who actually end up here.

“We do need these people if the industries are going to grow,” Biggs says. “Anecdote suggests a lot of them are told that while their qualifications are good, they have no ‘New Zealand experience’, whatever that is.”
