South’s Insite buys North Island’s Ultra

Northern and southern company presence will be 'complementary', says new company

Renaissance subsidiary Insite Technology, which assembles and distributes PCs, notebooks and server products, has agreed to acquire PC system builder Ultra Computer.

In a statement, Insite general manager Jan Paterson says: "The combined operations of Insite and Ultra will provide greater benefits for our respective customers and there is a lot of synergy between Insite and Ultra."

An Ultra director, John Gould, is quoted in the statement as saying, "The key benefit from the merger will come from our regional strengths. Insite has a strong customer base in the South Island and Ultra is particularly strong in the North Island."

Gould is to become head of the combined entity's Auckland operation, while fellow Ultra director Mark Forbes is expected to move to Snapper Network Distributors.

Ultra will become a division of Insite from July 1. Both Insite and Ultra were founded in 1992.
