MetService weathers changes

Metservice is a CWEA finalist in the customer service category

To meet customer demand for customisation, timeliness and convenience, MetService, which provides weather and information presentation services, has developed a weather information presentation engine (WISE).

The engine uses databases, modular code and templates to support development, deployment and maintenance of web-based information solutions. The same engine and management tools have been used to build and maintain MetService’s public website and its commercial B2B sites.

MetService’s customers can access free-of-charge weather information from the public website. Users can also design their own web pages, to suit their own personal activities, if they choose. More information is available by logging on to a user-pays service. Subscriptions to quite detailed and complex pages that reflect customers’ specific needs and requirements are also available.

The system allows customers to access information from any location and at any time, as long as they are connected to the internet. Higher level information is also readily accessible.

Public website use has been climbing steadily — from being number 31 in New Zealand, with 146,700 unique visitors in January 2005, the website has climbed to number 21, with 242,100 unique visitors in January 2006.

Metconnect, the domestic B2B website, has over 200 businesses using the service. And the international B2B site, Metraweather, boasts customers as far afield as Australia, Ireland, England, Germany and Spain.
