Otago District Health Board CIO sacked

The Serious Fraud Office investigates contracts worth more than $16 million

The former CIO of Otago District Health Board, Michael Swann, has been sacked for "gross mismanagement", reports the Otago Daily Times. The board called in the Serious Fraud Office earlier this month to investigate suspected fraud involving a single contractor and contracts worth more than $16 million. The board's CEO, Brian Rousseau, says that Swann was dismissed on Thursday 19 October "for gross mismanagement of the district health board's IT procurement, including failure to comply with delegation of authority and purchasing policies", according to a letter, which was leaked to the newspaper.
