Akamai Technologies plans to acquire Nine Systems in a deal valued at about US$160 million (NZ$239 million).
Nine Systems makes tools for rich-media production, publishing and distribution. Akamai plans to integrate Nine Systems’ Stream OS into its global content-distribution network. Stream OS is a suite of management tools that let users more easily produce and publish rich-media content, according to the companies.
The deal calls for Akamai to pay US$7 million in cash and issue about 3.1 million shares of Akamai common stock to acquire all of Nine Systems’ outstanding common stock. The companies say they expect the deal to be complete by year-end.
