Ericsson veteran returns home to head up local operation

Alfred Ling appointed NZ country manager after spell in China

Ericsson has appointed Alfred Ling as New Zealand country manager.

Ling replaces Jeff Travers, who has returned to work for Ericsson in Europe.

He returns to Ericsson NZ from Ericsson Greater China, where he was head of Customer Unit China Central and West.

Ling joined Ericsson NZ in 1991 and is quoted in a statement from Ericsson announcing his appointment as saying: “I am delighted to return to New Zealand where I began my Ericsson career. The China market, where tens of millions of subscribers are using Ericsson GPON equipment, reflects the growing global demand for high-speed broadband – a demand clearly evident in New Zealand.”

"Since I left New Zealand a decade ago the industry has undergone phenomenal change, and we are moving closer to achieving the goal of a totally networked society.”

Ling was also the Chairman of the Global Mobile Supplier Association (GSA) APAC Chapter during 2004-2005.
