Seeking CIO, sysadmin heroes

The MIT Sloan CIO Symposium is seeking nominees for its annual CIO of the year award, while USENIX is looking for candidates for its annual award for those making major contributions to system administration.

The MIT Sloan CIO Symposium is seeking nominees for its annual CIO of the year award, while USENIX is looking for candidates for its annual award for those making major contributions to system administration.

The MIT award recognizes those CIOs or chief medical information officers who have led their organizations in innovative IT and business projects. The 2011 award recipient will be honored on May 18 in Cambridge, Mass.

USER GROUPS LIVE: IT user supergroup forces vendors to take notice

Last year's winner was Casey Coleman, CIO for the General Services Administration (See: 12 CIOs who tweet). Other past winners have been from organizations such as JCPenney and Netezza, now part of IBM.

The deadline for submissions is March 18, 2011 and award finalists will be announced on April 29.

SAGE AWARD

USENIX, which has been around since 1975 and refers to itself as the Advanced Computing Systems Association, recognizes someone each year for their professional contributions the system administration community.

The SAGE Award for Outstanding Achievement has gone to such people as David Blank-Edelman, an author/speaker/instructor/conference organizer in the sysadmin field for a quarter of a century and the SAMBA Team, which came up with a way to give Windows users access to file and print services on Unix/Linux servers.

USENIX is also doling out a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Software Tools Users Group Award.
