An “ICT Summit” referred to for the first time by the Prime Minister in her February opening address to Parliament is scheduled to be held in October in Auckland.
“The summit will be held at the Hyatt Kingsgate in Auckland in the first week of October," communications minister David Cunliffe told Computerworld last week “The agenda and other details are still being worked on.”
The government-organised event should not be confused with the tautologically named “Telecommunications and ICT Summit” organised at Auckland's Hyatt Regency for June 25 and 26, by private firm Conferenz. This — the eighth in an annual series — will also feature Cunliffe, along with senior management, including CEOs, from telcos and ISPs.
At the conference, five days before Telecom CEO Theresa Gattung is due to depart, Telecom will be represented by head of wholesale Matt Crockett and general manager of “undertakings implementation”, Steve Crombie.
