Hickey to head Fairfax Digital

Head of business publications replaces Nic Cola

Bernard Hickey, the managing editor of business publications at Fairfax, has been appointed head of the company's digital operations.

Hickey replaces Nic Cola who has taken a position with Fairfax Media in Australia.

Hickey has become a familiar face on television, commenting on business and economic matters. A career journalist, he spent more than a decade in Europe, Asia and Australia working for reuters.co.uk and The Financial Times Group on emerging digital platforms, before returning to New Zealand, first to set up Business Day for Fairfax Media and then XtraMSN.

Hickey rejoined Fairfax Media in early 2006 developing Business Day and acting as interim editor of The Independent Financial Review after it was acquired by Fairfax Media.
