NZ govt spends $1.7 billion on ICT

Operating costs account for nearly two-thirds of spending

The New Zealand government spent $1.7 billion on ICT in the 2006 financial year, according to a Statistics New Zealand survey.

Capital expenditure accounted for $0.6 billion, while operating costs accounted for the bulk of spending, $1.1 billion.

Statistics says 77% of government organisations planned to invest in new or upgraded software or hardware. 77% said this was to improve efficiency, 74% to improve business continuity or security and 69% to improve quality of service.
