KAREN receives financial boost

Additional government funding to offset operational loss

The Government has signaled its commitment to the Kiwi Advanced Research and Education Network (KAREN) by providing additional on-going funding of $4 million a year from July 2013.

Chief executive Donald Clark says the money will go toward offsetting the network’s $6 million operational loss.

“This gets rid of any doubt about our long-term future,” he says.

“It will ensure KAREN remains advanced and on the leading-edge of networking, and is able to serve the specialist needs of our members.”

KAREN is a not-for-profit organisation.

Clark says he hopes to close the operational funding loss this year.
