Vodafone is telling customers to check their bills with greater care than usual as it prepares the move to its new billing system, SAM.
There will be "temporary changes" between mid-May and end of June, Vodafone warns. These include not being able to get accurate account balances from its customer care team or through sending SMS texts to 777; the Manage Your Account and spendManager applications won't provide accurate balances either.
Call details such as Vodafone to Vodafone, and type of call, will also be unavailable during the billing system changeover period. New and existing credit limits to accounts are also locked until June 30, and Vodafone warns that customers will be liable for payment if they are exceeded.
Vodafone advises customers to check the account before May 17 to get accurate balance statements and then monitor usage while the changeover to the new billing system takes place.
For a ten-day period starting May 17, international roaming cannot be activated or de-activated. That means customers travelling between May 17 and May 27 must set up roaming before those dates. Changes to plans during those ten days are also not possible, Vodafone says.
Permanent changes include balances sent by text messages being accurate to within one or two hours of the last call made, Vodafone says. However, You Choose on-account customers will no longer be able to manage plan add-on features via SMS to 756. The best way to do this is, according to Vodafone, by using the My Vodafone section on its website.
After the new billing system is in place, Vodafone promises "better value plans" and new services. Computerworldunderstands the focus for these will be on-account customers, who feel left-out compared to PrePay ones when it comes to special offers.
The BestMate offer, popular with PrePay customers as it lets them nominate another number with unlimited voice and video calls and SMS messaging for $6 a month, will finally come to on-account customers. There is a possibility that on-account customers may be allowed to nominate multiple BestMate numbers, instead of just one.
