Orcon to launch mobile services in October

Company acts on growth plan ahead of unbundling

Internet service provider Orcon has signed a wholesale agreement with Vodafone and plans to launch the country's second GSM mobile service in October.

Orcon says it is planning to enter the market aggressively and become a true third player in the industry.

"We have been working toward this since the heads of agreement was signed back in August last year, and are really pleased that we are finally going to be able to bring this product to market" said Scott Bartlett, general manager of Orcon, in a statement released today.

He says the agreement, along with the purchase of our VoIP soft switch and the introduction of local loop unbundling, means Orcon is going to be able to offer New Zealanders "an even better deal on their telecommunications, mobile, and of course internet."

Orcon is New Zealand's fourth largest ISP with over 100,000 customers, the company says.
