Census delivery postponed due to earthquake

Department of Statistics processing centre in Christchurch suffers damage

The Department of Statistics has postponed the delivery of further census forms for 48 hours while it assesses damage to its processing centre in Christchurch.

Census communications manager Michael Flyger says it will be mid-day tomorrow before a fuller picture will be known.

Computerworld has been told the centre, which is close to Hagley Park, has been hard hit.

Flyger says moving the processing to the department’s Wellington data centre is a probable option.

Meanwhile, other datacentres in Canterbury appear to have come through the earthquake largely unscathed. See Canterbury datacentres functioning after quake
