Vodafone not committed to Tuanz events

Telco says it didn't back out of After 5s because it never agreed to them

Vodafone did not commit to take part in Tuanz After 5s events on the Rural Broadband Initiative, says its GM wholesale and business development Steve Rieger.

Rieger made the comment following an article in Computerworld entitled Vodafone backs out of Tuanz broadband events. “We chatted to Tuanz about our desire to engage at the right time, but we did not commit to a date or any particular event. As we are in the middle of commercial negotiations with the MED, those negotiations must take priority.”

In the comments thread, following the original story Tuanz CEO Paul Brislen said. “Just to set the record straight, Vodafone hasn’t backed out of the Tuanz event - they asked if we could delay it a month and I agreed. We had hoped to do it in March [there’s lot of interest in RBI at the moment], but for a number of reason Vodafone felt it would be better to wait until April.”

When asked about the Tuanz comment, Reiger replied: “Given we had chatted to Tuanz about our desire to engage on the RBI, but hadn’t confirmed anything, there was nothing for us to “back out of”. If we conclude our commercial negotiations with MED in time, Vodafone will be more than happy to start engaging via the Tuanz events.”
