A recently-signed contract within the UK travel industry is likely to prove the viability of New Zealand-developed online survey software.
The Survey Company, which is based in Wellington, already has local customers such as the Reserve Bank and Hallensteins but is regarding New Zealand mainly as a proof of concept and an opportunity to grow the brand, says founder Graeme Harre.
“The service requires volume to make money,” he says. “To do that, we would need to be surveying 10% of the New Zealand population.”
Harre was not prepared to disclose details of the UK contract last week.
By comparison with traditional phone and paper-based surveys, the online option is very cheap, costing as little as 20 cents to send a questionnaire and to receive an answer. The survey engine collates and answers and provides instant status reporting. It can deliver charts and the data is exportable into Excel.
“Results are analysed instantly and you can follow the on-going progress of your survey,” Harre says.
The company has been designing, collecting, analysing and reporting survey results online since 1997. Recently, it introduced a product at the low end, called Go Fetch, which gives customers the option to build and run their own surveys at minimal cost.
“No other survey company in New Zealand offers a service where you can register online, do it all yourself following step-by-step guides and have a survey that is geographically attractive,” Harre says. The company has also launched a gadget for the Vista desktop, a mini application that updates the user every 10 minutes on the responses to a survey.
The software is written in .Net 2 and uses SQL Server.
