Finance Minister Bill English says three government departments are planning a website to provide the public with real-time access to income support and tax accounts.
English announced the project ServiceLink in a speech to the Institute of Public Administration today. He says the IRD, Ministry of Social Development and Department of Internal Affairs “are working together to provide simpler ways for New Zealanders to have real-time access to their income support and tax accounts with Government through a single on-line site.”
He says ServiceLink is part of the government’s push to deliver a more efficient public sector. “Government agencies will be increasingly organised around meeting the needs of households and businesses, rather than expecting New Zealanders to navigate through a maze of specialised agencies to get the services they require.
“In some cases this will mean harnessing technology much more aggressively to seamlessly deliver more transactional services to New Zealanders in their home or business,” he says.
