Credit union signs up to Telcoinabox

Union will resell telco services to members under deal

Australian telecomms wholesaler and franchisor Telcoinabox has signed a deal with New Zealand Credit Union (South), under which the union’s 25,000 South Island members will get access to broadband, fixed line and mobile deals.

The move follows Telcoinabox’s establishment in New Zealand last year and signing as a wholesale partner on Telecom’s XT network.

NZ Credit Union (South) CEO Andrew Leys says the scheme may be rolled out to all 180,000 NZ Credit Union members nationwide if uptake in the South Island is successful.

Telcoinabox’s business model involves letting client organisations become their own telecomms reseller, under their own brand.

In a media release announcing the deal, Leys says: ““We focus on the customer, that’s what we do best and Telcoinabox looks after the backend support and billing.”

The credit union is looking at a similar arrangement under which it would resell electricity to its members.
