Thales targets NZ investments

The company has been set up here to seek opportunities for investing in local businesses involved in high-tech research, says GM

Thales Group has officially opened an office in Wellington.

It has had a presence in New Zealand for 20 years through a local agent and has sold equipment worth $200 million to air transport and defence customers.

New Zealand general manager Stephanie Guigou says the company has been set up here to seek opportunities for investing in local businesses involved in high-tech research and to service the local market.

“We’re looking to partner with companies in high-tech research ventures,” she says. “This means that selected local companies with promising projects need not shift overseas for further development. The longer-term aim is to design and manufacture new products and to upgrade existing products in New Zealand.”

Thales employs 70,000 people in 50 countries.
