Wireless buy for Cisco

Cognio to be acquired

Cisco Systems is to buy Cognio, a maker of software for wireless network spectrum analysis and management.

Cognio provides software designed to enhance the performance, reliability and security of wireless networks by detecting and reducing sources of radio frequency interference.

Cisco says the acquisition will give it access to technology and intellectual property that will complement its existing product lines and help differentiate its offerings from those of its competitors.

Wireless networking is one of six technologies that Cisco refers to as a "Cisco Advanced Technology".

The Cognio deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2008. It will be Cisco's 122nd acquisition.
