Jade Software has made another acquisition – this time to expand its human resources and payroll services business into Australia.
It has bought Adelaide-based HR and payroll-services provider Empower Masterpay.
“Our decision to expand in Australia, in a sector we are already involved in, and to do so through acquisition, is consistent with our overall strategy to grow organically, through channel partners and by acquisition in selected markets,” says Jade managing director Rod Carr.
Empower Masterpay has more than 160 customers across Australia, including David Jones, Just Jeans, RM Williams, the Tasmanian Government, the Australian stock exchange (ASX) and Reuters, and manages the payroll for more than 400,000 Australians.
Jade has been providing HR and payroll services in New Zealand for nearly 20 years. Its clients include Toll NZ, Housing New Zealand, the Department of Conservation, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, the NZ stock exchange (NZX) and Fuji Xerox.
The chief executive of Empower Masterpay, Alan Greig, will continue in this role. Carr says no immediate changes to staffing, branding or the core technology, or service offerings are expected.
Greig says the link with Jade will provide both organisations with the ability to service companies who have staff on both sides of the Tasman.
Karen Dale, who manages JADE Star, Jade’s HR and payroll business, will join the board of Empower Masterpay.
The combined business will have a staff of 50 and annual revenues approaching $10 million. The purchase price was not disclosed.
In July, Jade bought Methodware, which manufactures operational risk management software.
