The Andrea Moore upmarket fashion boutique chain recently installed CounterIntelligence PoS from New Zealand company Kudos Solutions.
CounterIntelligence is popular among the fashion sector, with users including Trelise Cooper and Kate Sylvester. It can link into small business back-end systems, including MYOB and QikBooks accounting packages.
Andrea Moore director Brian Molloy says the company realised it needed an IT rather than a paper-based system as it expanded from three stores to five nationwide.
“It is primarily for better and timely management of stock and a vast reduction in paper-based management systems. There are other functions but a prime reason is customer database management linking sales to customers,” Molloy explains.
Two months old, the system is too new for Andrea Moore to comment on whether the system has helped them increase sales.
However, Molloy advises would-be PoS buyers to have a good paper-based system so they understand their business before selecting, as there are many products on the market.
For him, one of the attractions of Kudos was it's simplicity; it is easy for staff to use, it has never broken down, and any technical issues such as software upgrades are promptly handled at Kudos technical support staff in Auckland.
Bruce Hutchins, managing director of Kudos Solutions says the increasing speed and affordability of broadband means PoS systems can do more things with data and faster.
Kudos, which typically deals with people with multiple stores, says retailers are switching from 'dial-up batch reporting’ through to FTP, live date technologies, gaining instant updates.
Having instant updates and sales and stock levels means they serve customers better.
Hutchins says growing internet speeds has transformed PoS and what it can offer, even to dealing with time sheets, and the provision of music in stores.
“PoS is all central to it all,” he says.
Hutchins says Kudos is known for its strong reporting functions, with one product ‘Interrogator’ featuring a flexible reporting module that allows multiple views of retail performance with a focus on margins, return on investment and customer loyalty.
A newly-released ‘Communicator’ product also allows virtual online updating between PoS and the back office using the internet; whereas most systems are still largely batch-orientated, giving end-of-day updates, he says.
