Hesketh takes on health sector director-general's role

High-profile Kiwi IT executive returns from Australia

The Ministry of Health has appointed Alan Hesketh deputy director general of its information directorate.

The role had been vacant for some months after restructuring where the seven deputy directors general had to reapply for their jobs. Debbie Chin, who previously held the position, decided not to reapply.

Hesketh, a New Zealander, was previously programme manager, telecommunications for Woolworths in Australia. From 2001 to 2003, he was chief information officer at the Brisbane City Council, the largest local government authority in Australasia.

Brendan Kelly, who was acting in the information directorate role, will return to his former position at the Health Information Service.

Hesketh takes up the appointment later this month.
