Packeteer has released software plug-ins for its WAN optimisation gear so it can identify and control instant messaging, video and online gaming gear.
The software addresses Xbox Live and MSN Instant Messenger traffic as well as video and BitTorrent peer-to-peer traffic.
It is available for PacketShaper and iShaper devices, which perform multiple functions to streamline traffic across WAN links including compression, traffic shaping, and TCP optimisation.
Once the devices identify traffic types, they can enforce policies to limit bandwidth available and enforce priorities to different applications.
The new plug-ins are available now and are part of standard software for PacketShaper and iShaper. Current customers with service contracts will receive the plug-ins as part of a software upgrade.
