'AKILL' investigation continues

Forensic analysis of seized computers to be finished later this week

Police are still examining the computer equipment seized from the Coromandel home of the alleged botmaster known online as "AKILL". The raid — a joint effort by New Zealand Police and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation — was conducted late last month.

AKILL, an 18-year-old from Whitianga, has not been arrested.

The forensic analysis of the computers is expected to be finished later this week, says Waikato Police detective inspector Peter Devoy.

“We will then be deciding what further action to take,” he says.

The FBI special agent, who came to New Zealand to assist with the investigation, has now returned to the US, says Devoy.

The Waikato raid was one of several actions undertaken by the FBI since June as part of its "Operation Bot Roast", an effort to crack down on botnets.
