US jet airplane manufacturer Eclipse Aviation is implementing New Zealand-made software to develop production and maintenance instructions from its CAD designs.
Eclipse Aviation manufactures the Eclipse 500 "very light jet". It will use the software to generate consistent and transferable manufacturing and maintenance procedures for use at its production facilities in Albuquerque and its service centres in the United States, the company says in a statement.
Right Hemisphere's software is already used by other aviation manufacturers. Eclipse will use it to translate designs into interactive production instructions to "reduce the time required to create written production and maintenance directions and the interpretation needed to change engineering models into production applications", the company says.
It will also help technicians visualise work as it is performed and make improvements when applied to a production line. The software will also be used to reduce manufacturing and maintenance training time.
Over 500 manufacturers, including five of the top six automotive OEMs and nine of the top 10 US aerospace and defense contractors use Right Hemisphere's software, according to the company. Right Hemisphere is based in Silicon Valley and Auckland.
