SmartPay to manage Telecom wi-fi

1,500 sites seeking access to network, company claims

SmartPay's investment in wi-fi provider Fivo in December is paying off already, with the company picking up Telecom's hotspot management business.

NZX-listed SmartPay announced today it has inked a deal to manage Telecom’s wireless hotspot network.

SmartPay is positioning itself as an integrated merchant services provider.

Telecom's general manager of mobile products, Martin Butler, said in a statement that SmartPay was selected ahead of several other local and international companies to grow Telecom's hotspot network.

Linc Burgess, chief executive of SmartPay-Fivo, says that including Telecom sites, the SmartPay-Fivo hotspot network includes approximately 600 revenue generating sites in hotels, libraries, conference centres and popular cafes and fast food outlets. He says Telecom and Fivo have around 1,500 venues who are eager to have access to the wireless hotspot network.
