John Hosking appointed dean at national university

Auckland University professor of applied computer science John Hosking has been appointed dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at the Australian National University (ANU).

Hosking, whose current role includes director of the Centre for Software Innovation (CSI), has worked closely with local companies in consultancy and applied research. He led the establishment of the CSI Academy, a summer internship scheme, and the Extenda research culture building programme.

In addition, his teaching work has been recognised with a National Tertiary Teaching Excellence Award for Sustained Excellence and he has written over 200 published academic papers in the fields of software engineering and computer science.

“We are very proud to see Professor Hosking being appointed to this leadership role at one of the region’s top universities,” says Professor Grant Guilford, dean of science at the University of Auckland.

“John is an inspiring individual with a wonderful blend of academic excellence, industry nous, common sense and collegiality. We are looking forward to interacting with John in his new role as we further develop our relationships with ANU.”
