Microsoft raises dividend

Investors to get 20c per share

Microsoft has raised its dividend by 25 percent to US20c per share, the company announced earlier this week.

The company only started paying dividends to shareholders in 2003, nearly 20 years after it first publicly listed. The original dividend was 8c per share and the company has raised the dividend level several times since then.

A number of commentators have interpreted the dividend hike as evidence that Microsoft is stagnating and can no longer offer growth in its stock price as an incentive to attract investors.
