Upgrade takes down Westpac ATMs

Fault replicates taking system down for six hours

A software upgrade took Westpac's ATM network down for around six hours last night.

According to Westpac spokesman Craig Dowling a problem in the main part of the system replicated to a mirror image in the backup system during a routine security software upgrade.

He told Radio Live the outage ran from midnight to around 6.30am nationwide. It affected approximately 500 ATM machines.
