MetService expects to achieve much greater reliability in forecasting for its major aviation customers when it launches a web-based service within the next few months.
CIO Russell Turner says it will provide faster turn-around and will not require as many people in the background monitoring the service.
MetService has recently completed upgrading its legacy systems. It has standardised on blade servers and has become Java and Oracle-based. Two new SANs, addressing 10TB of data, have been installed.
Turner says the structure of the IT team has subsequently changed.
“We’re separating support from development functions.”
He emphasises that the changes do not mean a reduction in head count.
