Government IT awards finalists named

Winner to be announced in Wellington on October 28

The finalists for the Excellence in ICT in Government Award, sponsored by HP, have been announced by the judging panel.

They are:

• The Department of Internal Affairs for its IID09 BDM Family History project

• Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) for its Landonline project, which has achieved 100 percent online lodgement

• The Ministry for the Environment for its Land Use and Carbon Analysis System (LUCAS) project

• The Department of Corrections for its joint project to manage the unauthorised use of mobile phones in prison.

The judges agreed that a special mention should be made of the entry from the Ministry of Economic Development’s Video Relay Service Trial.

The judges commented the project illustrated how simple yet effective an ICT initiative can be.

A bumper crop of 15 projects were entered in the awards this year. The entries come from both central and local government agencies.

The winner will be announced at a cocktail function at Te Papa, in Wellington, on October 28.
